about 2faced1.com

"2FACED1 is a visionary digital network,  a loose collective with members in Europe, Africa and North America, bound together by what we call ‘stereotypophobia’."

“It is all about critical questioning of what identity really is. Would you be the same person in another context? Does society have certain expectations on you based on traditional parameters like class, gender, color, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and so on? And how much do these expectations affect your so-called self? Every forward thinking person are aware of those things, its a gift which  also make you relate to other peoples struggles.”

Style Moments 1992

Post date Wed 24 Apr 2013 8:39 AM

Photo: Steven Miesel 1992

My big bru Apollo has told me about the early 90's in Paris, when he used to dance with Army Of Lovers in the middle of their heyday. La Camilla was the amazon and Jean Paul just as Thierry Mugler were both amazed by her whole appearance! Apollo told me Camilla's dress was so tight so she couldn't do a proper catwalk wich instead lead to JPG finding this dog and turned it to a dogwalk (nifty huh!). The whole Gaultier show from 1992 was inspired by Jaque Tati's film "Mon Oncle"!

THE SOUNDTRACK TODAY: Jassie Ware got something new " Imagine it Was Us" - this one will be spinning over here during the spring, it's def so my type of jam! Listen to this while checking out videos below!

The Biker Jacket of Your Dreams

Post date Mon 22 Oct 2012 12:38 PM

This is the jacket Robyn wore during the Body Talk Tour in the states in 2011, I bought in Tokyo and it's size 36, unfortunately a little bit to small for me. I'm cleaning out my office, moving in to a new one, a 2FACED1 - Konichiwa office, wihooo! Will get more things up on EBAY, working on it, but until then I post this rarity here first since it has happened that people contact me directly anyway.

If you live in Stockholm it's yours for 2000 SEK to pick up, 2200 SEK if you want to receive it by mail. it you're based in Europe 260 Euro including postage, 350 USD incl. postage if your ass is parked in the States. Hollur at hi2faced1@gmail.com. First come first served...

- Thanx to Alexandra for modeling ;)

Azealia Banks is going deep down in her 90's trip, and the name of the song is of course "1991", the same year the lady herself was born. For the ones who's been bumping Strictly Rythm and Nervous Records the last five years it doesn't feel like something new-new, but I'm looking forward to be hearing this in the mainstream context during the fall! + as I always say Azealia can spit, I like her, even if I wish she would be better trained than to go after other female rappers. I mean there are loads of shitty male-MC's out there... (Update: the Shystie hook up points in another direction! Great to have Shystie back in the limelight!)

Champagne Coast

Post date Wed 2 May 2012 5:40 PM

Like it always is, I've had a secret muzak crush on Mr Devonté Hynes (formerly in Test Icicles), and the Blood Orange project for a while. And kept it for myself as the asshole I sometimes am. But then just to see his new video feat. people I know, and know of...! One of last years best mash up film/music was, yes, Blood Orange's Champagne Coast vs. Vanilla Ice's movie "Cool as Ice" - the act of genius in putting them two together makes it hard to look at the new official video in an honest light, and I really like it too! The thing is that Vanilla Ice's love affair feat. MB's, horses, hot gear, drama, sunset and fields is ALL you ever wanted to remember your first love like.

The new one directed by Haley Wollens. Oh yes, and Mr Hynes got his share of love for the long coats too!

On The TLC Tip

Post date Thu 26 Apr 2012 11:53 AM

Ooooooooh.....On The TLC Tip and I still to this days can't sit still!!!

Gets the shivers, this is so much a soundtrack to Gränbyskolan in the early 90's, I copied it to tape from Selvija in my parallel class, and just danced, danced and danced. This is definitely a ground stone in the Decida Style of Motion right here hehe. I wonder if Dessa still remembers any of the choreographies we taught them Gränby kids, and I wonder if the kids remember! TLC was perfect in your headphones back then, i e His Story and Hat 2 Da Back felt like feminist anthems for us and that's the underpinning mode of the whole album.

Hat 2 da back I gotta kick my pants down real low
That's the kinda girl that I am, that's the kinda girl that I am

Yesterday it was 10 years since one third of the group, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, past away and ESSENCE talks to Chili and T-boz over at their web, abot Left Eye and VHI's upcoming biopic.
The tomfoolery in feeling protective over an artist that's not even longer alive...stupid as it might be, I hate when I'm like this...getting frustrated over people not knowing what's really up blogging....oh lord I'm too old for this...Anyway today an other real TLC fan hits Sweden; Gina! Will meet up with her and Lina, a funny anecdote: Lina did cut her hair like T-Boz in -94 and then some months later a certain Robyn has her breakthrough and suddenly people starts calling Lina "Robyn", Lina gets pissed and keep telling people about T-Boz, but noone really listen. Fifteen years later Robyn herself confirms that the classic Robyn bob cut anno 1995 was inspired by, yes you're right; T-Boz!

Skip over to Essence now.

A Photo of Highest Importance & a Sushi Roll with Mr Wang

Post date Sun 8 Jan 2012 6:09 AM

In my ranting over the radness in Alexander Wang ss 12 (and ditto for booking Odd Future for the after party) I mentioned some iconic Adidas releases and an old dress in a similar style I myself had back then. During my Christmas visit at mom's & pop's but I did find the old Right On Magazine from 1993 featuring a photo of the group Jomanda in the named Adidas dresses, it totally blew my mind back then! What I also found was a photo from the last year of junior high in my take of the RnB style popular during those years. I should add that following photo was taken for a catalog of everyone born the same year in the city of Uppsala (and went out to the same ones). Inasmuch this is before each and everyone are using the Internet, this photo was your only shoot, if you failed, you could just go and kill yourself. At least that's what it felt like.

Since I was fortunate to hang out and share some sushi rolls with the beautiful Mr Wang himself when in NYC in December I got to know he's a big fan of 90's RnB, came as as no surprise for the proficient!

Bookmark my hand on Selma's shoulder, very subtle but very important gesture in a catalog of the 90's.

Happy New Year - No Fear!

The most important thing 2011, for me - as a 2FACED1, has been the processes known as the Arab Spring and Occupy (W)All Streets. Two movements apparently diverse at first sight but actually just different expressions of the same spirit when one looks into it. The question has been raised: what is democracy? Is it compatible with reigning western view of Capitalism? And how do we reach it in a global world? This awakening of solidarity with hope of a world based on human need (as in equal rights for all mankind) and sustainability, not corporate greed, has 2FACED1s in the forefront, pushing that development. - The ones able to understand more perspective than one on things (the type of knowledge you develop when you're not the norm) - the ones understanding there are different situations of superiority and subordination in different contexts, - same ones that take responsibility when they happen to be in a context where their place is the privileged one.

How this movement is connected to the 2FACED1 State of Mind, we will keep on clarifying during 2012. The second wave of Occupy All Streets will happen this year and the truth is that it's our revolution, and yes the revolution will be televised and tweeted.

So dear 2FACED1s, let's put all energy into the things that really means something in 2012, and in the future. Think of that whenever you decide to put your thought and energy into various matters, does this really mean something?

Lots of love, brave creatures!

Now That...

..."We Found Love" is the name of Rhinna's new single. The Gypsie and others have been complaining about how little Rhinna they've seen on the blog during this last year, well her style anno 2011 just didn't fight her way in here. But now we're talking: Rhianna in black and white, a 90s feel with 50's curls, jeans and baggies and those BALENCIAGA's I crowned the shoe of the year in January!!! The song? Well let's say it's not how I have my tea.

Shabazz Palaces - Swerve... by subpop

New (well a couple of months) from SHABAZZ PLACES as in babyface Mr Butterfly of DIGABLE PLANETS straight from my youth, yes that's right! I bought REACHIN back in 1993 - milestone in my own private history of music. BLOWOUT COMB is not to be forgotten, I'm still amazed how they sampled the sound inbetween the tones on this album.

And I'm stoked over tonights concerts, can't wait to see the old ladies of ESG dropping heavy bass lines live!
