about 2faced1.com

2FACED1.com shows one persons two different faces in photos;

Persona 1:
WHAT YOU WANT TO BE
CONSIDERED AS

Persona 2:
WHAT YOU FEAR TO BE
CONSIDERED AS

This leads to a discussion about stereotypes and inner fears of getting misunderstood by the surroundings. Thoughts that every thinking modern day person does reflect upon. We're asking people from an innercity context where old categories as ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality and class are reassessed, why they choose to look like they do. We’re diggin' deep, peeling off garments, codes and attributes. We’re searching for transnational identities - is the conclusion that we choose whoever we want to be today?!

A 2FACED1 STATE OF MIND

A 2FACED1 is highly aware of existing stereotypes related to your own ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality and class. You’re trying to avoid them but sometimes also play with them to make people think twice about who you are. Two faced doesn’t mean anything negative here, it explains the double folded view you have on identity if you’re not the existing norm. It means you have the feet in different worlds, can move between them but feel rather at home in that space in between. You've stepped out of your comfort zone and have become one of the new identities where ol' categories are mashed up and rootlessness and non-given identity just means major possibilities.

A Photo of Highest Importance & a Sushi Roll with Mr Wang

Post date Sun 8 Jan 2012 6:09 AM

In my ranting over the radness in Alexander Wang ss 12 (and ditto for booking Odd Future for the after party) I mentioned some iconic Adidas releases and an old dress in a similar style I myself had back then. During my Christmas visit at mom's & pop's but I did find the old Right On Magazine from 1993 featuring a photo of the group Jomanda in the named Adidas dresses, it totally blew my mind back then! What I also found was a photo from the last year of junior high in my take of the RnB style popular during those years. I should add that following photo was taken for a catalog of everyone born the same year in the city of Uppsala (and went out to the same ones). Inasmuch this is before each and everyone are using the Internet, this photo was your only shoot, if you failed, you could just go and kill yourself. At least that's what it felt like.

Since I was fortunate to hang out and share some sushi rolls with the beautiful Mr Wang himself when in NYC in December I got to know he's a big fan of 90's RnB, came as as no surprise for the proficient!

Bookmark my hand on Selma's shoulder, very subtle but very important gesture in a catalog of the 90's.

Happy New Year - No Fear!

The most important thing 2011, for me - as a 2FACED1, has been the processes known as the Arab Spring and Occupy (W)All Streets. Two movements apparently diverse at first sight but actually just different expressions of the same spirit when one looks into it. The question has been raised: what is democracy? Is it compatible with reigning western view of Capitalism? And how do we reach it in a global world? This awakening of solidarity with hope of a world based on human need (as in equal rights for all mankind) and sustainability, not corporate greed, has 2FACED1s in the forefront, pushing that development. - The ones able to understand more perspective than one on things (the type of knowledge you develop when you're not the norm) - the ones understanding there are different situations of superiority and subordination in different contexts, - same ones that take responsibility when they happen to be in a context where their place is the privileged one.

How this movement is connected to the 2FACED1 State of Mind, we will keep on clarifying during 2012. The second wave of Occupy All Streets will happen this year and the truth is that it's our revolution, and yes the revolution will be televised and tweeted.

So dear 2FACED1s, let's put all energy into the things that really means something in 2012, and in the future. Think of that whenever you decide to put your thought and energy into various matters, does this really mean something?

Lots of love, brave creatures!

..."We Found Love" is the name of Rhinna's new single. The Gypsie and others have been complaining about how little Rhinna they've seen on the blog during this last year, well her style anno 2011 just didn't fight her way in here. But now we're talking: Rhianna in black and white, a 90s feel with 50's curls, jeans and baggies and those BALENCIAGA's I crowned the shoe of the year in January!!! The song? Well let's say it's not how I have my tea.

Shabazz Palaces - Swerve... by subpop

New (well a couple of months) from SHABAZZ PLACES as in babyface Mr Butterfly of DIGABLE PLANETS straight from my youth, yes that's right! I bought REACHIN back in 1993 - milestone in my own private history of music. BLOWOUT COMB is not to be forgotten, I'm still amazed how they sampled the sound inbetween the tones on this album.

And I'm stoked over tonights concerts, can't wait to see the old ladies of ESG dropping heavy bass lines live!

"Then, now, next"

I started on this post but never got to finish, so a couple of weeks later let's go.. Last number pretty much sums up why UK still is (and who is) the shit. All shoot by the amazing I-D icon Nick Knight. Let's celebrate via a journey through some of his and other photographers i-D covers!

Classic Madga, (long time blog readers seen this one up before)

The classic one with swedish LA CAMILLA by GUIDO HILDEBRAND (Guido Hildebrand, who is a dude with a name like that? Is he the missing link between swedish youth culture via a connection to swedish director Staffan Hildebrand -FILMEN G- and New Jersey Guido's or what?!)
