about 2faced1.com

2FACED1.com shows one persons two different faces in photos;

Persona 1:
WHAT YOU WANT TO BE
CONSIDERED AS

Persona 2:
WHAT YOU FEAR TO BE
CONSIDERED AS

This leads to a discussion about stereotypes and inner fears of getting misunderstood by the surroundings. Thoughts that every thinking modern day person does reflect upon. We're asking people from an innercity context where old categories as ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality and class are reassessed, why they choose to look like they do. We’re diggin' deep, peeling off garments, codes and attributes. We’re searching for transnational identities - is the conclusion that we choose whoever we want to be today?!

A 2FACED1 STATE OF MIND

A 2FACED1 is highly aware of existing stereotypes related to your own ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality and class. You’re trying to avoid them but sometimes also play with them to make people think twice about who you are. Two faced doesn’t mean anything negative here, it explains the double folded view you have on identity if you’re not the existing norm. It means you have the feet in different worlds, can move between them but feel rather at home in that space in between. You've stepped out of your comfort zone and have become one of the new identities where ol' categories are mashed up and rootlessness and non-given identity just means major possibilities.

Popping by Damir's

Post date Thu 5 May 2011 5:18 PM

I arrived in Paris two days after Damir showed his women fall collection, what a pity you might think, but instead I got to experience something even better!

My PARIS trip was a hectic one, squeezing in fashion shows between shopping for miss R, showroom appointments and a session with a possible new client I've been waiting for to happen about three months (more on that later!). I popped by the DAMIR DOMA showroom on the Sunday (!) and was welcomed by the grey eyed designer himself surrounded by his white/black/reddish brown/mustard-yellow shaded fall collection. Spot on colorscale! We took seat in front of the big LCD screen where the new fashion show was looped and Damir sat down next to me, filled me in with details about the styles + a couple of "I can see you in this"! And I soo agree, cause Damir designs for a woman like me (I just stopped myself from writing "modern woman" but wohaaa those fashion bunkum you have to go somewhere else for...!). You maybe see Decida Style as synonymous with accessory and more -rather than less- is more (-that is; compered to Swedes) but still beneath it all there is a silouette I care for. And despite Damir's ageless elegance (did I just complain over bunkum...) at first sight, there are the hints from the street, do you see the tall tee, the do-rags, the biker shorts, the creepers?! There are similarities between Damir and Alexander Wang too, even if the approach is a bit different. Hands down, I need to cop some of this collection when it's out, and you know what -I wont be the only one wearing it, but more on that in the future!

BTW: The jacket Robyn got on here is Damir Doma! (Not my idea with all that photoshopping though)

A Child Of Jago

Post date Wed 9 Mar 2011 6:37 PM

Sean from RockersNYC just apprised me on the brand A CHILD OF JAGO, created by Simon Armitage, who was raised in the London 80's punk scene,  used to be back up dancer for Mclaren affiliates Bow Wow Wow (I Want Candy) and an original member of the Stüssy tribe, and Joseph Corré, yes former Agent Provoucateur and also the child of Westwood/MCLearen. Bellow you see two Styles from their The Oath Of The Canting Crew Collection of FW 2011 where the Westwood heritage is traceable. See more over at their site and the Rockers Blog

"Books such as the London labour and the London poor by Henry Mayhem, and the Newgate calendar have been sources of inspiration this season… very appropriate considering their relationship to the East End and Clerkenwell areas. This is where Britain’s real heritage lies.. a heritage that has been swept under the cultural carpet and hidden behind a smokescreen of pseudo British tradition manufactured in China for the mass market."

HIStory- Miguel Adrover

The HINT Blog is refering to the new number of the INDUSTRIE Magazine who tells us what happened "When Miguel Adrover Bit the Hand that Fed Him, Anna Wintour Bit Back". The stylish Mr ADROVER, born in Spain at the time based in NYC, was one of the most spoked about new designers a couple of years ago. Some might remember the ecobrand HESSNATUR/Adrover "Hidden in Nature" exhibition from NYC Fashion Week 2008. Miguel Adrovers trademark is a holistic view on fashion and it's enviroment, where "etno"-influences never are gimmicks or stereotypical escapism from a colonial type of view, no they rather add notable perspectives on norms and ideas of trends and beauty of today. And I'm pretty sure he's a 2FACED1, fucking up references like we're supposed to! Let's do a backflash into his great works own name!

FW2001 Meet The East

SS2003 "Citizens Of The World"

SS2002 Utopia

SS2004 "The Surreal World"

SS2005 "The Americans"

I wouldn't guess he'd do it, but it would be amazing if he returned and started to design under his own name again!

Martine Rose SS 11

Post date Tue 28 Sep 2010 5:38 PM

I remember Martine Rose from the Timberland serie last year, and this time around she really proves she's one to count on! I'm impressed by this collection, it's not that we haven't seen the deconstructive Street Wear orientated style before (Dr Romanelli and Junya Watanbe etc) but the pieces Rose pitches togheter bears a bravness and attitude that remind me of our House God JP Gaultier's old creations, Junior Gaultier etc. And yes... that's something of ol' Marithe Francois Girbaud that pops up when you read these first letter Martine too!

Matthew Ames Fall 2010

Post date Tue 27 Jul 2010 9:05 AM

Since I woke up with a FB friend request from the amazing Matthew Ames (!), I realised I forgot to post his present collection! Like I said before. And then again.

The volumes we love! Perfect choice of shoes and especially the grey shiny fabric is amazing, you saw something similar in the Adam Kimmel collection, twisted another way around but still out of the same zeitgeist core in a way. See more at Style.com.
